My GLI: A month in Review

On this day last month, I walked in to a VW dealer and bought my first ever car. a 2012 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn, with just a bit over 24,000 miles on the clock. Over the past month I have honed it, cleaned it, loved it, and argued in it. It has seen new friends and a breakup. But I love it so much! It's an amazing choice of car.

Since I've bought it, I've put in 60 hours of seat time, and done about 1,600 miles. Now, this might not sound like a lot, but for an unemployed 16YO whose commute to school is a 2.5 mile round trip, it's a metric fuckton! Here's to you GLI and for surviving me this long!

God damn I wish I had a GLI as a sixteen year old.

Shit, who am I kidding? I wish I had a GLI right now in my twenties.

Congrats on a nice car, keep us updated. I am possibly looking into a GTI in the future and like to hear how the VW's are doing.

Honestly? I'd say get a GLI over the GTI. It's the same car, with more trunk. Also, you see fewer GLI's than GTI's

And yeah, mods will start soon, so then i'll really keep you guys updated. First thing: Drilled/Slotted rotors and performance pads!

Yeah, I can see that. But moar weight, and personal preference I like the hatch look over the sedan.

Still love the GLI, but prefer the GTI.

Also I strongly recommend looking into APR tunes, so much for relatively little. That would be a right away thing for me on a VW.

dude. the GLI is lighter than a GTI. my mom's 2.5 5-cylinder Jetta is a good 70 pounds lighter than a WOB edition GTI!

but preference is key man! :)

And yeah, I am actually getting a tune in about 5 months! just gotta get the money together, and do the brakes first

I drove a Jetta A6 and really liked the gimmicks the stereo had.

-Instert aux cable -> Stereo puts itself in aux mode.

-Lower the volume to min -> Stereo pauses the music.

Straight from the VW website, both 4-door models' curb weight:

GTI= 3031

GLI= 3124

Just shy of 100lbs heavier in the GLI.

personally I've always liked sedans more than hatches. they feel more "upscale" to me. so I complitetely understand the preference thing man
